Number 07-11: Valvular disease by CMR

Case from: Niall G Keenan, Agata Grasso and Sanjay K Prasad. Department of CMR, Royal Brompton Hospital, London, UK

Clinical history: A 74 year old female with increasing breathlessness. Known rheumatic heart disease and LVH.

Cine CMR:

No1. LVOT: mixed aortic and mixed mitral valve disease
No2. cross-cut of mitral valve showing doming of valve leaflets and
mild jet formation during LV filling
No3. short axis of aortic valve. Valve area 0.8cm2.
No4. short axis of mitral valve. Valve area 2.4cm2. Mild MS.

Perspective: CMR provides an alternative to echo for the assessment of valvular disease.
